El Capitano – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do I need a boat license to rent a boat?
No, you don’t need a boat license. Anyone who is 21 years or older is allowed to drive the boat. Before departure, you’ll receive a clear instruction about how to operate the boat and the rules on the water. Plus, there is always a member of our team nearby on the water to assist you if needed.
Can I go wherever I want?
For safety reasons, navigation is limited to the Spanish Water lagoon area, so you won’t be able to take the boat out to sea. However, within Spanish Water, you are free to explore and enjoy all designated areas. All boats are equipped with real-time GPS tracking, allowing our team to monitor your location at all times and ensure a safe experience on the water.
Is fuel included in the price?
Yes! Our boat is fully refueled every day and has a large tank that easily lasts a full day on the water. No need to refuel, and fuel is completely included in the price.
What happens to my reservation if the weather is bad?
We can’t control the weather, but your experience matters to us. If the forecast shows heavy rain, strong winds, or thunderstorms, we will do everything possible to reschedule your booking to another time or date that works for you. If rescheduling isn’t possible, we’ll discuss a suitable solution together.
Is El Capitano kids friendly?
Yes, El Capitano Curaçao is family-friendly and welcomes kids on board! For safety, we provide emergency life vests for children of all ages. These are not swim vests, but official safety vests intended for emergency situations. Children are more than welcome to join the adventure, while parents can relax knowing that all essential precautions are in place for a safe and enjoyable day on the water.
Are children’s life jackets available?
Yes, we provide official emergency life vests (Type II, SOLAS-approved) for children of all ages. These vests are designed to be used only in case of emergency, not for swimming or general water play. If your child does not have a swimming diploma or is unable to swim, we kindly ask you to bring your own recreational swim vest for their comfort and safety during the trip.
Can we take more than 6 people on board, even if they’re children?
No, the maximum capacity is strictly 6 people, regardless of age. This limit is enforced by regulations and insurance coverage. Exceeding it, even with a child, voids insurance and could lead to fines and removal of the boat from service without a refund.
Can I rent multiple boats at the same time?
Yes, multiple boats can be rented simultaneously for larger groups or events. Just let us know in advance, and we’ll arrange everything to ensure your group has a smooth, enjoyable experience on the water.
Can we bring food and drinks on board?
Yes, you’re welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy during your trip. Alternatively, you can pre-order them through us, and we’ll have everything prepared on board for you—no extra effort required!
Do you offer snorkels for rent?
Yes, snorkel gear is available for rent.
Can we fish on the boat?
Yes, recreational fishing is permitted onboard.
What should I bring on the day of the booking?
• ID (passport or driver’s license) to sign the contract
• Mobile phone for safety
• Sunscreen (recommended SPF 50), plus a hat or cap for sun protection
• Beach towel
• Waterproof bags (a watertight cabinet is available on the boat)
• Ice, food, and drinks—water is essential (cooler provided on the boat)
• And, of course, bring your enthusiasm for a fun day out!
Is it easy to find parking near the departure point?
Yes, there is ample parking available near the departure area, allowing you to park conveniently and free of charge.
Can I bring a pet on the boat?
No, pets are not allowed on board due to the risk of damage to the upholstery and cushions. This helps us maintain the boat’s condition and ensures a comfortable experience for all passengers.
Can we leave the boat with no one onboard?
No, it’s essential to have someone on board at all times. Since the sea is a dynamic environment, a designated person must stay on the boat to maintain control and ensure safety.
Is the boat insured?
Yes, the boat is insured for both liability and hull damage.
